“This is one of the more finely assembled vessels I have ever had the joy of upgrading and living aboard. I bought it from the man who built it, she was laid up in a boatyard in Toronto and shipped to BC, Canada before it was ever splashed. I sailed it down to the states, imported, and federally registered it with the USCG. The accessibility of the superstructure and open layout makes adding components very simple and cost effective. Very customization friendly. The volvo engine can be unmounted and moved forward into the salon with a single 4×4 across the companionway and block and tackle. Can be done with one person Nothing major has to be removed and it provides full access to rear fuel tank, transmission and packing gland. The whole boat is similar in that a single person can access, remove, and repair almost all aspects of the boat from keel to top of mast without the use of large cranes and hoists or excessive hired labor. “

The original “Saugeen Witch” is one of Tom Colvin’s most popular designs. She is intended as an all-purpose sailing vessel capable of coastwise as well as ocean sailing and is ideally suited to extended living aboard. Many of these vessels have made extended voyages across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and to the Arctic.
.
The enlarged version is eight percent longer than the original, which allows the addition of a quarter berth to the starboard side of the cockpit, a chart table ahead of this, and an enlarged galley to port. Forward of this are two settee berths with lockers behind and a table on the centerline. The forward cabin has V-berths which convert to a spacious double. Between the two cabins are the head/shower to port and a hanging locker opposite. The interior woodwork is tastefully handcrafted in red cedar and maple and treated with an oiled finish for ease of maintenance. LED lights everywhere makes the vessel extremely conservative on battery power. Consideration has been given to ensure that this vessel is practical under all conditions of weather. Decks are clear and uncluttered with substantial bulwarks and lifelines. There are sufficient secure handholds throughout. Below decks all lockers can be securely closed to retain their contents in the worst of conditions.
.
She is ketch/cutter rigged, the mainsail being gaff and the mizzen marconi. The staysail, mainsail and mizzen are of tan coloured polyester “Top Gun” cloth by Howe and Bainbridge. This has the advantage of not being degraded by ultra violet light. These sails are on booms and stow in lazyjacks for ease of handling. The jib is of white 6 oz. Dacron. Also has a 100% genoa. Sail covers and bag are of black polyester material. Both masts are stepped in tabernacles and all spars are of aluminum with an AWLGRIP finish. Masts can be lowered easily by two persons without outside help and stow neatly for passage through inland waterways.
.
Careful consideration is given to ensure that there are no inaccessible areas which are difficult to clean or are potential rust spots. All cabin corners and those between cabin sides and deck are rounded for good looks and to produce a surface which retains paint and is easily cleaned.
